The colder winter weather can affect your oral health. These easy tips will help to keep your mouth in great shape.

Avoid Chapped Lips

Invest in a good quality lip salve with SPF protection and carry it with you at all times so you can use it frequently. Ensuring you remain well hydrated will also help avoid chapped lips, so drink plenty of water.

Reduce Your Risk of Tooth Sensitivity

Tooth sensitivity can be a real problem when breathing in the chilly air. Using toothpaste for sensitive teeth can help considerably, but be sure to use it continuously as the effects build up over several weeks.

Don’t Get Cavities from Comfort Food

If the colder weather makes you yearn for sweet treats and comfort food, make sure you brush your teeth frequently and include plenty of healthy foods in your diet too. Aim to eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies, and cheese is excellent for teeth. It contains lots of calcium to strengthen your tooth enamel.

Cold Sore Outbreaks

When the weather is colder, it can cause more cold sores. If you do suffer from cold sores, try to resist touching your mouth and spreading bacteria, and use a topical ointment the minute you feel a cold sore coming on.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
