Veneers & Smile Design

Whether you're after subtle refinement or a dramatic smile transformation, cosmetic veneers offer a tailored solution to help you feel more confident every time you smile. At Mentone Family Dentist, we combine advanced technology with a holistic approach to ensure your veneers enhance both your appearance and long-term oral health.

Cosmetic veneers are thin, custom-made shells placed on the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance. They're often used to:

  • Address stubborn discolouration that doesn’t respond to whitening
  • Repair chips, cracks or worn edges of teeth
  • Improve shape and symmetry for a balanced smile
  • Close small gaps between teeth

Veneers can be used alone or as part of a broader smile design or full mouth rehabilitation plan. We also offer dental bonding as a more affordable option for smaller cosmetic corrections, and occlusal veneers to restore function in cases of tooth wear.

Types of Veneers

Cosmetic Veneers: These are ideal for enhancing the front-facing surfaces of the teeth used to correct discolouration, chips, gaps, or asymmetry for a brighter, more uniform smile. These are custom made in dental laboratory using Zirconia or Porcelain materials for natural aesthetics.

Dental Bonding: Also called cosmetic bonding, this is a single-visit solution used to repair minor imperfections like chips or small gaps. It’s more affordable but not as durable as traditional veneers.

Occlusal Veneers: These are used to restore the chewing surfaces of worn or damaged teeth, particularly in patients with bite issues or significant enamel loss. Occlusal veneers play a vital role in functional rehabilitation and long-term oral health. They’re typically made from ormocer, an advanced ceramic hybrid material known for its biocompatibility.

Our Approach to Veneers

We take a personalised, holistic approach to every veneer case to ensure optimal function, aesthetics, and long-term health:

Initial Examination: We assess your oral health and identify any issues like gum disease or decay that need to be addressed first.

Digital Smile Planning: Using tools like TRIOS digital scanning and high-quality photography, we design a smile that complements your facial features.

Mock-Up Preview: You'll receive a temporary mock-up so you can preview your new smile before finalising treatment.

Tooth Preparation: We use conservative techniques that preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible.

Guided Fabrication & Placement: Your veneers are custom-made using high-quality, biocompatible materials for a seamless and natural look.

Orthodontic Considerations Before Veneers

Proper alignment and bite function are crucial before placing veneers. If teeth are significantly misaligned, orthodontic treatment might be necessary to create a stable foundation.

Why Orthodontics May Be Recommended:

  • Minimises tooth reduction: Straightening the teeth first allows for more conservative veneer preparation.
  • Improves bite function: Proper alignment ensures even pressure distribution and helps veneers last longer.

It's important to schedule a consultation with our dentist to determine whether orthodontic treatment is required prior to undertaking a smile design treatment.

Our Technology

We use advanced technology to support optimal planning, precision, and patient outcomes:
TRIOS 3D Scanner: Creates accurate digital impressions for better-fitting veneers and faster turnaround times.

CBCT Imaging: Helps assess jaw alignment and underlying structures when veneers are part of a broader treatment plan.

Holistic Considerations for Smile Design

As a holistic dental clinic, we go beyond surface-level aesthetics. Our veneer treatments take into account:

  • Biocompatible materials to minimise the risk of sensitivity or immune response
  • Jaw and bite function, ensuring your veneers won’t contribute to issues like clenching or TMJ
  • Myofunctional and airway factors that may affect long-term success
  • Sustainable practices, including using eco-conscious materials where possible

Alternative Treatments to Veneers

In some cases, orthodontic treatment may be recommended before veneers to improve alignment and reduce the need for tooth preparation. We also offer dental bonding as a more affordable, single-visit option for small chips and gaps, and occlusal veneers to restore worn teeth and improve bite function.
