Oral Microbiome Mapping

Your oral health is more than just a smile; it’s deeply connected to your overall well-being. Our Oral Microbiome Mapping diagnostic test is provided in partnership with Nutripath, a leading Australian laboratory. This test help us understand the unique microbial environment of your mouth, providing critical insights into how your oral health impacts your broader wellness.

By identifying harmful bacteria and imbalances early, we can tailor treatments that not only address dental issues but may also contribute to your systemic well-being.

What is Oral Microbiome Mapping?

The oral microbiome is one of the body’s most essential ecosystems, home to diverse bacteria that influence both oral and systemic health. Using PCR technology, this test identifies and quantifies bacteria in your oral cavity that could contribute to conditions such as gum disease, cavities, and even systemic health problems such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and autoimmune disorders.
Understanding the specific composition of your oral microbiome enables us to develop a personalised treatment plan to help restore balance and promote overall health.

In this before-and-after case study a personalised treatment plan helped reduced harmful bacteria linked to periodontitis and other health conditions over a several week period. Note: this is for educational purposes, individual results may vary.

Our Approach to Oral Microbiome Mapping

At Mentone Family Dentist, we make the process simple and comfortable:

  1. Sample Collection: During your appointment, a small sample of your saliva will be taken.

  2. Laboratory Analysis: The sample is sent to Nutripath’s lab, where bacteria are analysed using advanced PCR techniques.

  3. Detailed Report: The results include a detailed breakdown of bacterial levels and their potential impact on your oral and systemic health.

  4. Personalised Care Plan: We develop a customised treatment and lifestyle plan to help address imbalances and optimise your health.

Benefits of Oral Microbiome Mapping

Whether you're addressing a specific concern or seeking preventative care, preventative tests offer valuable insights to guide your wellness journey.

Early Detection:

Identify harmful bacteria early can help us to intervene with preventive treatments before it progresses to severe gum disease or other systemic health problems.

Personalised Treatment:

With a thorough understanding of your unique oral microbiome, we can create personalised treatment plans tailored to your needs which may include laser therapies, guided biofilm therapy, ozone treatments and more.

Prevention of Systemic Diseases:

There is a well-established connection between oral health and systemic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and autoimmune disorders. Addressing dysbiosis early may help mitigate these risks and promote overall wellness.

Education:

Visualising the bacteria and understanding their impact can help you take control of your oral hygiene and make informed lifestyle choices that benefit your whole body.
